Dr. Contreras was born in Mexico City and earned his medical degree at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He then completed his postdoctoral studies at Children’s Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School. During that time, he received a Fellowship Award in Transplantation from American Society of Transplant Surgeons.
He completed his fellowship as abdominal transplant surgeon at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and then joined as Faculty to the Recanati/Miller Transplantation Institute for several years until his return to Mexico, when he joined National Autonomous University of Mexico and helped to build what is now the largest liver transplantation center in the country. He and his wife Maria have three girls and are excited to be here in Utah.
Dr. Cook grew up in California where he earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
He then attended medical school at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Cook completed both his general surgery residency and abdominal transplant surgery fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle and is certified by the American Board of Surgery. He relocated to Salt Lake City with his wife and daughter where he practices and is passionate about transplant, hepatobiliary, and general surgery.
Dr. Zendejas was born in Mexico City and earned his medical degree at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He then completed his general surgery residency training in Mexico City at Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Medicas and a transplant clerkship at the University of Alabama in 2006.
His general surgery chief residency, abdominal transplant and hepatobiliary surgery fellowship were completed at the University of Florida in 2008. Dr. Zendejas was appointed assistant professor of surgery in the division of transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery at the same institution until 2016.
He is a board-certified surgeon in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. He is a member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the American Hepato-pancreato-biliary Association. He and his wife Gaby enjoy concerts and outdoor activities with their three kids.
Dr. Robinson grew up in Utah and earned his bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Utah. He then attended medical school at Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed general surgery residency at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington and then fellowship training in abdominal transplant surgery at the University of Virginia. Prior to returning to Utah, he worked as a transplant surgeon at Weill Cornell Medicine New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Dr. Robinson is board certified in general surgery and specializes in liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation, living kidney donation, robot-assisted donor nephrectomy, robot-assisted kidney implantation, and general surgery in abdominal transplant patients. He focuses his research efforts on studying outcomes in transplant recipients and increasing patient access to transplantation.
Kate completed her Masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Utah in 2015. She completed her Bachelors degree in Health Sciences with a minor in Holistic and Integrative Health from the University of Southern Maine in 2008. Prior to becoming a physician assistant Kate worked as a certified Surgical Technologist for 3 years in New Hampshire, as well as a ski patroller and vet assistant, prior to returning to pursue her masters degree in 2012. Since becoming a physician assistant in 2015 she has previously worked in her home state of Maine specializing as a Physician Assistant in General and Acute care surgery, Surgical Oncology and Colorectal surgery. She joined the Transplant surgery team at Intermountain Medical Center in October of 2018 and our Canyon Surgical team in September of 2020. As an integral part of our team she actively participates in surgical rounding in the hospital, assisting in the OR, and pre and post op care in our clinic. Kate also has experience and specializes in evaluation of soft tissue masses and skin lesions, offering in clinic excisional biopsies.
